Cyril J Cheng Bio

Cyril served the people of Canada in a parallel career for 33 years at the Canada Border Services Agency and 36 years of part and full-time service with the Canadian Army.  Cyril started and finished his LE career working on the front line, loving every minute of being at the tip of the spear of law enforcement work at one of the busiest border crossings between Canada and the US. Throughout his career, he did almost every single aspect and specialization unit of the job; particularly those dealing with Contraband and Weapons Interception and Interdiction.

In his second career as a soldier, Cyril spent all of his career as an Infantry soldier and culminating his service as the Regimental Sergeant Major of his unit.  During his time in uniform, he served on one domestic deployment doing disaster relief and five overseas deployments, including combat operations in Afghanistan. He also had the opportunity to work for 5 years on a special mission covert Human Intelligence gathering unit, where he operationally deployed twice in the Balkans and conducted a number of selection processes and instructed on the subsequent qualification course.  For 4 years, he was assigned and utilized as the Brigade’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Close Quarter Combat during the Annual Spring Training Exercise.

Cyril has served on the Board of the Michigan Tactical Officers Association as a Rep and eventually took on the responsibility as the Director of Training until 2024. He is still actively engaged with the Association’s Mobile Training Unit, where individuals or Agencies can bring in quality training and instruction at a very affordable price due to the voluntarily nature of the instructors. His primary focus and specialization are in firearms and tactical training, but he is also well versed in other less lethal or supporting use of force options.
